Define Geek: A person with a devotion to something in a way that places him or her outside the mainstream. Most geeks identify themselves among various categories such as comic book geeks, gamer geeks, sci-fi geeks, science geeks, philosophy geeks, history geeks or music and film geeks. These are just a few of the categories for geeks because they continue to grow every day!

So, what is a geekpreacher? Well, a geekpreacher is someone that realizes that geeks need a pastor too. Yes, often geeks feel ostracized by the mainstream church and find themselves feeling awkward or left out. Many geeks have been told that to be a goodChristian they have to give up those things they enjoy as a geek.

They couldn't be more wrong! The purpose of this site is to allow geeks of all stripes to realize that there is a crazy preacher out there that understands geekdom and is willing to show geeks that there truly are, "Open Hearts, Open Doors and Open Minds" within the geek community.

Now, you ask, who is the geekpreacher? Well, the geekpreacher is Derek White and he currently is serving as an interim pastor for three churches within the United Methodist Church. He's pretty much been a geek from his earliest years. Comic books were the beginning, seeing Star Wars in the theater as young boy, learning to play D&D in the early 80s, seeing the rise of video games along with a passion for science fiction, fantasy, theology, history and a wide range of other topics he pretty much is the epitome of a geek.

Contrary to popular belief, geeks also marry and have families. Pastor Derek is married (fourteen years and counting!) and has one child, a cat, a dog and too many books.
